Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, the sequel to the war-simulation game "Operation Flashpoint"
If realism is your thing, than this is your game. Everything has been done to make the game as much as possible a simulation of real life war, this means that often getting hit by one bullet means death.
It features a 220 square kilometre island (In real time, crossing the island takes 9 hours on foot, 4 hours in a Jeep and 20 minutes in a helicopter), although the focus is not really on free-roaming, since it's mission-based and most of these missions have time limits.
It has been confirmed that you can free-roam as much as you want in missions which do not have time limits. However even the missions with time-limits give you complete freedom in which way you want to complete it. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has 70 different weapons varying from SMG's and Assault Rifles to Artillery and Air Support . It also features 50 different vehicles.
The campaign can also be played in co-op, where the other players take the place of the A.I. It also has multiplayer, with two modes: Annihilation and Infiltration, more will be released after launch. Multiplayer on the PC is 16v16, on the consoles it is 4v4 with 3 AI each.
As everyone knows already Windows 7 is the new Operating system from the Microsoft Corporation.
Windows has already completed building the Operating system and have closed downloads to the release client.
At the moment they are just fixing any small bugs that users experience.
Windows 7 includes:
-Less demanding system requirements.
-An easier taskbar which also has more features.
-Better versions of the standard windows programs.
-Internet Explorer 8.
-Windows Media Player 12.
-Jump Lists.
-Device stage.
-Homegroups.
-New theme.
Each of these points will be explained in detail in this article.
Less Demanding System Requirements. This is a great improvements on the operating system, if your system can run Windows XP then it will run 7,users will no longer need the requirements that vista demands, although obviously the better specs your system has the better performance you will experience.
Microsoft had an aim to improve the performance of its operating system after losing some of their reputation from some users of Windows Vista commenting about its low performance on low spec systems. Windows 7 has many changes which improve the speed of the system rather than needing to upgrade your computer.
One big problem with Windows Vista was that it used a lot of memory as shown here:
(Source: Ed Bott)
Windows 7 uses much less memory than Windows Vista as shown by the graph.
New Taskbar (Superbar): The "Superbar" as it has been renamed in windows 7 is in similar style to Windows Vista, the windows 7 taskbar uses larger icons and is bigger than the standard task bar but it also has a option in the taskbar settings to set it to "Small icons" and this will make it look very similar to the windows vista taskbar. Something cool Microsoft added to the minimized programs is that if you hover over its icon on the taskbar it shows a live preview of the program, this feature can also be disabled to increase system performance.
The Aero Peek button which is located on the right of the Superbar is a button which minimizes all windows and if pressed again maximizes all the windows in the same order as you had them open :D
Finally the "start" button is replaces by the circular Windows 7 logo which lights up when the user hovers their cursor over it.
Upgraded standard windows programs As everyone knows the default programs which come with older versions of windows suck, luckily in windows 7 Microsoft decided to redesign them and to give them more features.
This is a image of windows 7 paint, it has vastly changed and now has features such as a choice of brush, stroke type, shapes, more tools to use and many more. My favourite feature about it is the fact that Microsoft had added a custom zoom, which they should have added long ago..
I highly doubt that this is going to be the new digital drawers new program to use.. but at least its good for quickly editing images or for making an image quickly.
Another program which has changed a lot is WordPad, it is no simpler to write up tidy documents without needing to own Microsoft Office Word.
As you may notice the GUI is very similar to the new paints look, this is the style most of windows 7s programs are using, it also looks very tidy and appealing for people to work in. When Microsoft were designing this program they must of had Office Word in mind due to using some of the feature that it has to offer such as inserting images and different text styles.
Internet Explorer 8 IE 8 is the newest version of Microsoft's Internet browser, I wont say much about it because it isn't unique to Windows 7. Internet explorer 8 has many new features to the older versions but for users who visit websites which aren't yet supported with the new browser, there is a button which you can click to switch to "Compatibility mode" and it will view pages just like using IE 7 again!
Link to download IE 8 for your current operating system: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx
Note: IE may not be the best browser to use as there is many more out there, personally I like firefox.
Windows Media Player 12
Again like IE 8 Windows Media Player 12 is available on other versions of Windows too so I won't go into much detail. Windows Media Player 12 is the current latest version of Windows own media player which is available with windows, the UI in WMP12 is similar to the windows 7 theme now and it is brighter than WMP11. Since WMP11 some buttons and toolbars have been moved to different parts of the program but it is still very easy to get a grip of.
The taskbar miniview menu has a lot more features in windows 7s version of WMP12 making your music experience easier and more enjoyable.
Jump Lists The jump list in windows 7 is a pretty cool feature, it remembers what you have been doing and what you enjoy doing on your pc the most, the jump list shows in the miniview menu which appears when you hold left click something on the superbar and it displays things you frequently use such as web pages in IE, music in WMP or files you view a lot.
This feature is also used in the start menu for pinned items.
Device stage Device stage is a new way to manage printers and devices on your computer, it can also show you information about the printer/device such as printing jobs, battery status or space remaining.
Although it does depend on how supported your device is with windows.
Home Groups Home Groups is a LAN (Local Area Network) file and printer sharing network which is super easy to setup compared to the older My network places..
With home groups you can allow sharing of anything you want on your computer between your lan and have control of what you also do not want to share. Also with its new security feature others on the LAN will need the password it supplies on first creating the Home Group.
New Theme The theme which Microsoft has made in Windows 7 is similar to vista, it is the glass effect which has been edited a little from Vista but a few changes have been made to it such as a few new buttons and skins on some of the programs. Also control panel now has a few new icons for programs insite it compared to Vista.
Windows 7 will be available on October 22. PureGamers recommends switching to windows 7, as it greatly improves what should of been Windows Vista.
Our rating: 4/5
The storyline for this game is that it's June 2009 and a earthquake destroys the city, rescue does not arrive for some reason though, your goal is to get together into a refugee camp and get rescue you need to do many things around the city to survive for 7 days including steal, kill, heal and gather and use items.
Parts of the city are still collapsing around you so you need to be careful where you tread. As seen in the trailer, water is the biggest resource so everyone is trying to get it, and will even kill for it!

Garry's Mod. Ring a bell? If not, here is a brief description. This is possibly the best source-mod/Half-Life 2 Mod of all time. Garry`s Mod is a sandbox game that lets you do whatever you wish. Literally! From Building giant buildings out of wood from half-life 2, to making planes out of cardboard, to even submarines and sometimes spaceships! You CAN do ANYTHING! (Within the limits of the source engine though..)
Here's some great examples:
Take.. lets say this barrel from Half-Life 2.
And turn it into.. THIS! A rocket made out of those barrels. Using a Thruster from the Tools menu.
Gameplay: As I stated before you can do do anything you wish.
When you hold "Q" in-game, a menu appears with all of the tools props and NPCS (Non-player character which are AI bots that you can fight or shoot..) called the spawn menu. The controls are the same as half-life 2 but they can be changed in the ingame option menu. There are some tutorials to help you start playing using "F1" in-game or in the menu. Best thing is to get a friend to help you learn how to play.
Your question is probably how do you build things?
There is two main weapons.
1. The PhysGun - The Physgun is a way to move around props (objects) with ease and also rotate them.
2. The ToolGun - The toolgun is used to operate the tool you selected in the tool menu in the spawn menu menu.
One of the biggest parts of this game is customisation. Indeed it is a mod but you can also modify the mod... here are descriptions of some popular mods.
PHX3: Phoenix Storms Pack 3; it is a huge 800+ MB pack of 2 maps and over 500 props and textures.
WireMod: Wiremod is a popular mod that lets you literally wire things. People have made fully functioning computers with operating systems ALL IN GAME! This mod is quite hard to use for beginners although.
Spacebuild: This is a gamemode which allows players to build a ship using props and tools which you then can fly to another planet. (As long as you store oxygen and other required life devices.
Graphics: Its the source engine. It can look from this:
To this:
System Requirements: Minimum: At least a 2.5 GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent with 512 MB RAM and a "okay" Graphics card with at least 64 MB of Video Memory. Recommended: It depends what map but usually any dual core and a 8600 GT and up graphics card with at least 2GB of memory. Benchmarks: Can't really do benchmarks the game is too diverse!
Requirements to play: At least one other source game! Such as Counter-strike source or recommended Half life 2.
This mod is only £5.99 UK / $9.99 USD At the steam store and its worth it!
Mirrors Edge starts off as you collecting packages and moving them around the city. Then, your sister gets convicted for a murder she did not commit.. So the police are now after you. You run and run and run.. and try to save your sister!
Pros:
-Stunning Graphics and amazing physics with PhysX enabled.
-New innovative game play that will keep you hooked to the game for hours on end.
-Extremely Optimized; I run 1680 by 1050 everything maxed out with 4x anti aliasing and i get 40-50 FPS on a PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT (78 dollar GPU) and it gets easy 60 FPS with 8 X anti aliasing on most higher-end graphics cards. Cons:
-Short game.
-Needs patches or else does not work properly.
-Too linear gameplay.
It's a must buy, its really fun, I had enjoyed every single bit of the game.
