Battlefield Heroes

Battlefield Heroes (BF) is the newest instalment of the Battlefield Series by EA (Don't go rambling on about how EA sucks and that kind of stuff EA really proved them self worthy this time!) It is a World War 2 3rd-person shooter that is quite  addictive. It has lots of features and incentives to play more; from More items emotions (In game you press q and a list of emotions like: hi yes medic (like Team Fortress 2)) and MUCH MUCH MORE including clothes tattoos and more!

Gameplay:
New. Innovative. Addictive. Its fun bottom line. The shooting is very easy in 3rd person same with the camera which is perfectly placed.. weird for a 3rd person game to have a perfect camera..... There IS a ranking system here is how it works: Low rank = hard to kill other players; equal damage (low damage at start) High Rank = easy to kill each other and equal damage. The entire game is based online, meaning their is sadly not a single player option.

Graphics:
Graphics are just like TF2 but a bit more advanced. Cartoon-like but still maintains the realism touch.

Minimum System requirements and recommended:
Minimum: INTEL PENTIUM 4 (P4) 3GHz+/AMD P4 equivalent 1.5 GB RAM Integrated graphics or 6600 NVIDIA and up (ATI equivalents as well)
Recommended: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.2+ GHz or AMD 2200+ NVIDIA 8800 GT and up and 2-3 GB Of RAM.

Puregamers Benchmarks:
Test System:
CPU:E8400 @ 4.25 GHz
GPU:9800 GTX+
RAM:4GB DDR2 1066 MHz RAM

TEST 1 @ 1280 x 720 @ Highest settings possible
100 FPS minimum 100 FPS average 100 FPS max*
TEST 2 @ 1680 x 1050 @ highest possible settings
95 FPS minimum 100 FPS Average 100 FPS max*

As the benchmark concludes the game is heavily optimized, and seems to work great on that card. It was pretty good with my 9600 GT as well, I don't have any benchmarks at the time for that. It should run great on any computer.

Conclusion: A great game, but not for everybody. Its worth trying though! I would also like to let you all know it is a free game. THAT'S RIGHT! A FREE GAME! (wow and by EA too.. something's wrong..) But you have to pay cash for battlefunds you can spend on items without earning valour points (You get a few per kill and you can spend them on items)

This is the newest instalment from Bohemia Interactive Studios (BIS) which is centred around fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus (Black Russia). There is an on going civil war against pro-communist Russia.

Chernarus in game is 225 km² is based on actual satellite photos of České Středohoří. (real life place). ArmA II is a military simulator, as Flight Simulator X is a Flight simulator. Please note the game is coming out the 29th of June WORLDWIDE.

Graphics:
ArmA II is based off the same engine as OPF (operation flashpoint), Armed Assault; called Real Virtuality. OPF Uses RV V1 (Real Virtuality) Armed Assault Uses RV V2 And Of course, ArmA II uses RV V3.

* Multicore support
* Bump texture mapping
* Parallax occlusion mapping
* New glass, metal shine and reflections
* Micro AI
* Built in-dynamic conversation system
* Dynamic shadows
* New normalized textures
* New shaders

Screen shots of the graphics + Video:

Gameplay:
ArmA II is a Military Simulation as stated above, it isn't no call of duty 4. This game uses half your keyboard, and relies Highly on tactics. There is not much room for error in this game, it is realistic to the MAX. You can't take more than 5 shots depending where they hit, and there is also a medic simulation too. When your down, your Corpsman (Medic) will come to you and patch you up. Or a squad member can temporarily help you so you can go to a helicopter OR medic to get healed later on. This is a free roam game after the first 5 missions. You make the decisions, you plan the attack. Its up to you.

The AI is very hard right now, but BIS is patching it, and mods will change it. And example of the AI is, you shoot one guy, and hide behind a bush, and then they headshot you (from behind a bush) This happens a lot, although in Close quarters combat, it is much more realistic.

A big aspect of the game is vehicles. They range from A-10s, to MH-60 helis. The planes and helicopters are easy to fly, but as for cars and trucks, they are a bit odd to drive.
There is also an Editor which you can create missions and stuff.

"The Bottom Line":
This game is fantastic, no doubt about it. It also has innovative, your-choice type
gameplay. Although, the game is bugged, and the AI is too hard, BIS will fix it later on.  Its very fun, a must buy!

Neo Tokyo (Source Mod)

Score: 9.5 / 10

Neo Tokyo is a brand new modification for the source engine (hl2). Neo Tokyo is a first person shooter that aims to provide a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting. Neo Tokyo was produced for Unreal Tournament but the team behind the mod wanted a different engine so they have now released the mod on steam. The mod is produced by Studio Radi-8.

The graphics in Neo Tokyo are one of the best around utilizing all off source engines capabilities. Neo Tokyo has created a lot of new content which has made there mod unique from other mods out there. The mod has really gone all out of graphics as they have created a very clever HUD which suits the mod perfectly. The mod has some interesting graphics such as the new vision which when activated makes you invisible; see heat and various other exciting elements utilizing shader technology.

Gameplay in Neo Tokyo is basic but yet feels new and fresh. So far the mod only has one-mode which is called ghost and you need to go and get the ghost which is essentially from ghost in a shell. Although I don't like this mode it usually turns into a very fun tactical death match game. The biggest part of Neo Tokyo is the visions as it really makes the mod unique from all other mods out there. Vision is really cool and new as you can see all sorts of heat in the levels and can go invisible and sneak in and kill someone without them knowing which makes the game very challenging.

The weapons in the mod are very varied with weapons such as pistols, shotguns and machine guns these are really nice all with a custom zoom. The weapons fit well with the mod but they could of done with ironsights as it's really hard to shoot sometimes and can be very inaccurate. You can gain points and unlock new weapons which are a big plus for the mod.

Players in the mod have a very Japanese feel to them with clever use of details on them such as having masks which make the characters very futuristic and exciting. These characters are nice to play with and really show off all the work they have done on the mod.

Overall the mods very well designed and have a good balance of fast action shooting with a more tactical shooting element.

Again, you need a source game, as well as steam to play this!

Red Faction Guerrilla

THQ's sequel to the 2002 game "Red Faction 2" is a MUST buy. I've personally only played it for a small amount of time, it has just been released yesterday (15th September 2009), but anybody can EASILY say its the the most addicting, attractive, fun, innovative, and wowing game out there.

Destruction Story:
Red Faction Guerrilla follows up from Red Faction. Parker freed Mars from ULTOR, a massive corporation gone wild. ULTOR was seen in Saints Row 2 (a recent game) and Saints Row (original), along with the other red factions. In saints row 2, Ultor is a very large company. They own Stillwater's (city) Saint's Row District in Saints Row 2. Red Faction takes place about 50 years into the future from saints row, and ULTOR is mining on Mars.

The main characters job is to salvage, and destroy the EDF's buildings to cut off suppli The colonist are not big enough to do a full on assault.... Guerrilla warfare. This is where the fun comes in.

Destruction. This is the reason I bought it. THQ did a FANTASTIC job in making EVERY BUILDING destructible. Don't care how big it is, it will fall.
I made a video to demonstrate such.

Free Roam. RFG is a free roam game. There are many different areas of mars. One is EOS, which is the largest. If you remember EOS, and who she is, then that's a bit helpful. If not.. either just play Red Faction 1, or just go ahead and find out in RFG. You must be careful. If you enter EDF territories, you may be shot.

Graphics. just like saints row 2, pretty, nice shaders, good effects, love the shaking of the ground.. Its HAVOK. HAVOK is the physics Engine for the game, and it is JUST WONDERFUL. I could not be happier. It does use GEO-Mod 2.0 to utilize HAVOK though. If you remember, GEO-MOD was the technology that let you tunnel your way through maps in red faction. You could dig your way to the end.. Not in RFG, but, does not matter really.
It is on steam, and for 39.99 USD, it is a STEAL!

Its a very fun game, however the story was just not put into the game enough. It still is a very fun game.

Sims 3

Sims 3 is the newest instalment of the Sims Series, Developed by EA Black Box and EA Play, and published by EA. (Electronic Arts).
Wait!!, it's by EA! why did I care to read this?!

Hold on there cowboy! EA isn't as bad as you say it is. Plus, the disc version of Sims 3 uses NO SecuROM! Support isn't bad at all, and most of the help I have received was from the publishers forums themselves.

Gameplay:
Sims 3 is a lot like Sims 2 with lots of the expansions. It includes basic functionality, along with tons of other 'additions' that really makes the game fun. My favourite addition that is not in the "vanilla" Sims 2, is sex. SEX yes, you can climb into bed with your wife and have sex with her. You can get her pregnant, too. A big disappointment in the realism is that you have to have sex with your wife countless times before she gets pregnant. In my opinion, its a good thing... Please note, there is NO Abortion in this game, so you are stuck with the baby unless you drown, burn, or starve the baby to death.

On the downside The Sims 3 is a lot like the other Sim games, so if you weren't a fan of those you probably won't like this one either. But alternatively if you did, you will love this one!

A very huge feature is a fully functional town, with lots of people you can meet, party with, and such. You can go to the food store, the library, the book store, wherever you want! Even the park and stuff.

Anyway, here is a basic Sims day explained.

6:30 AM -Wake up. - You have to wake up to be awake, right?
6:45 AM -Eat Cereal. -You can choose lots of foods, from waffles, to salad!
7:30 AM -Read the paper. -Some weird kid comes and drops off the paper..
8:00 AM - Get in car to go to work. -"Bob" works At the science facility in town.
4:00 PM - Get back from work. -honey i'm home.
4:30 PM - Take a shower. -Yes, you can take showers. doh. There is blurs, so don't get your hopes up..
5:00 PM - Play Burnout Paradise on the computer. - It randomly selects EA games, in this case it selected Burnout Paradise.
6:00 PM - Prepare steaks for dinner. - First time I did this I burned my toddler to death. Be careful!
7:00 PM - Eat those steaks! - Om nom nom nom.
8:00 PM - Read in bed. - You can read lots of stuff, from Comics, to Pregnancy.. (your sim reads, not you)
9:00 PM - Impregnate wife. -gigity gigity goo
10:00PM - Impregnate wife. - ohh yeahhhh
11:00PM - Impregnate wife. - :D
12:00AM - Go to sleep. - You have a set timer to 1 hour before work, or you sleep until you're fully rested.

A bit of information about work. During work, you can change what your doing, and how your acting. In a science career, you can change from working hard, to hardly working, (pun intended) to helping your boss, and even talking to fellow scientist about work, or even befriending them. It all contributes and deteriorates your status at work. E.g. working hard can get you a raise or promotion, working with your boss can also get you a promotion, or a raise, (duh)and talking to friends for too long can get you fired, or just nowhere.

IGN Made a brief video explaining more aspects of the Sims 3's Gameplay, and such.

Graphics:
Graphics are a marginal improvement from Sims 2. Uses better shaders, (2.0) and overall looks better. I will let pictures explain.
Left: Showing the new graphics + the town.                                                       Shaders on people

** PLEASE DESCRIBE THIS IMAGE ** ** PLEASE DESCRIBE THIS IMAGE **

Conclusion:
Sims 3 is a fantastic new instalment of the sims series, featuring new concepts, more content, things to do, and better graphics. This is a must buy for any PC gamer. It is very addicting However, Sims 2 seems to offer a bit more with the expansions.

This game gets a PureGamers rating of:

8/10
